Seismic Refraction

The refraction seismic method is based on the phenomenon of wave propagation, its principle consists of generating a wave front through sources (explosive, blow or other means), in order to transmit them in the medium to be prospected, record wave travel time and estimate layer thicknesses and shapes.

Seismic data is obtained by artificially generating a disturbance in the subsurface using explosives or through mechanical impacts on the surface. The signals are detected by a set of sensors called geophones, which are placed in line with the power source.

Using the distances between sources and receptors and the times of the first arrivals of the seismic signals, the dromochrons (time-distance curves) are elaborated, from which the velocities of each one of the strata, their thickness, depth, shape and inclination.

The last step is to interpret our velocity model (results), integrating all the geological, geophysical, hydrological and topographical information of the study area in order to obtain the interpretation that best approximates the geological reality of the subsoil, and to propose the best solution for our customers.
